“Back on Track”

Excite Health and Fitness

What are the three words I hear more than any other when I speak with people about where they are in their fitness journey?

It’s not even close.

“Back on track.”

Everyone seems to be in a perpetual state of being “on track,” “falling off track” or “getting back on track.”

I want to take a moment and dissect this thinking.

What if you were never really on or off track at all? What if you were just trying to win one day at a time, celebrating your little victories, and not beating yourself up over your missteps?

Do you think you’d be healthier and happier?

I do.

Health, fitness and wellness are not an all-or-nothing proposition.

There’s no switch that we flip when we decide to be fit and healthy and when we decide not to be.

Your body doesn’t know whether you’re “on track,” “off track” or somewhere in between. It doesn’t measure health that way.

You do.

You’ve told yourself this story that you’re either on the wagon or you’ve fallen off.

It doesn’t have to be that way.

I’d encourage you to stop looking at fitness as something you start when things are going great and you feel motivated, and something you stop when things are tough and you feel lousy.

Just show up every day.

If it’s a great day, and you’re full of energy and motivation, go crush that workout and your meal prep and your water intake and your 7+ hours of sleep.

If it’s not, do SOMETHING that will move you forward. Pick ONE, and DO IT.

And if you indulge in less supportive foods or miss a couple of workouts in a row, that doesn’t mean you’re “off track.”

It means you’re human, and you’re right where you’re supposed to be.

Stay right where you are, and keep moving forward.

Yours in health and fitness,

Chris
