I thought I would share with you a small story about my fitness journey. This lesson was from my training and written around my first Ironman which I completed in 2014.
"As you may know, I am training for my first Ironman triathlon - Melbourne Ironman in March 2014. Over my recent triathlon journey, my coaches have remarked on many an occasion the value of CONSISTENCY in training; that if one is consistent with sessions completed, each week, then the results will come and you will achieve your goals.
This of course sounds very sensible and perhaps even too obvious. With training though, and our own health and fitness goals, quite often life gets in the way - family, friends, work - many things can interrupt our journey.
My triathlon journey has seen that. I had completed 4 x long distance/half ironman triathlons up until last weekend. In the lead up to each of those events, my training was pretty good, but probably not as consistent to get the results I was after. The races, whilst I was happy, ended with quite a painful long run. Long course triathlons - a painful experience.
However, they do not have to be like that as I discovered when I completed the Challenge Melbourne 1/2 ironman distance triathlon last weekend. It was enjoyable, felt much easier than I had ever felt before, and I had plenty of gas in the tank at the end.
Why? What was the difference?
Simply because I was CONSISTENT with my training. Week in, week out, for months, I have stuck to my goals, ticked off the boxes in my training program, and as a result, over time, my base fitness has just steadily grown and grown. I have hardly noticed this change, but looking back the sessions have become easier as my body and mind have adapted.
The LESSON out of this - if you can get CONSISTENCY into your health and fitness efforts, then you will no doubt achieve your goals.
This is easy to say - "come on, be consistent". But I can safely say, if you do have a good program set around achieving your goals, and you stick with it, you WILL ACHIEVE your GOALS."
