Chris has been very successful in business throughout his life, but his passion is helping people achieve their dreams through health and wellbeing. When you have your life in balance with good health through fitness and nutrition, anything in life becomes possible.
How did this transition happen from corporate CEO to Excite Health and Fitness?
Well, some time in the early 2000’s, I was 15kg more than I am now, my mates were telling me I was a prime candidate for a heart attack, my wife was worried about me…but I motored on…working long hours, and not having much perspective in life.
Then the penny dropped. Not sure why…something to do with not fitting into clothes anymore, how I just felt unwell, but really it was wife and family – they needed me and I wasn’t doing my end of the bargain.
So I went to a gym near work, and signed up for personal training, not really sure what I was in for. Those first few sessions were so painful, and made me feel so sick and sore…the memories still stick with me. But I stuck with it. Soon enough I was making progress, and starting feeling so much healthier.
My trainers were awesome and turned my life around. The experience was fantastic. I was so appreciative of their efforts in helping me, I vowed to one day try and be in a position to be able to help someone else, or help others if I could.
My trainer even encouraged me to go back and give triathlons another go (previously I did sprint triathlons in 1993-1996). No, not one triathlon, dive in and enter the whole summer Gatorade Series. She challenged me! So I trained up and had a crack. That was 2010. My life had changed so much. Not only my health but my perspective on life and what is important (ones health, family and friends).
I did my first Ironman 70.3 at Canberra in 2011. I was very proud of the process, the sacrifice and the effort I made. However it was again, people helping me.
So in 2012, Excite Health and Fitness is born, with the goal of nurturing people through a journey to health, fitness and life balance. Add to this passion, the science of Metabolic Precision, and we have a peer-reviewed, research based approach to body transformation's.
I pushed on with triathlon and the culmination of that journey was to complete Ironman Melbourne in March 2014 and also in 2015 (3.8km swim, 180km bike, 42.2 run). Anything is possible - Ironman is a long way from my overweight self all those years ago!
Chris loves personal challenges, from trekking in the Himalayas and Borneo, climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro, to cycling 6,500 km around Europe, and to facing and conquering the most challenging of single days competitive events – Ironman!
